About Me

Positions:

2009- Advanced Research Scientist, Drug Discovery Division, Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, AL. Research Area: Carbohydrates, Small molecule drug discovery, Anti-mycobacterial and antibacterial, Semi-synthetic Saponin based vaccine adjuvants.

2005-2008 Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL. Duties: Teaching undergraduate and graduate students and research. Research area: Synthesis of oligosaccharides, small bioactive molecules and semi-synthetic vaccine adjuvants.

2000-2005 Research Scientist, Drug Discovery Division, Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, AL. Research Area: Synthesis of sugar based anti-mycobacterial agents targeting cell wall bio-synthesis. Also worked on a contract project for the development of several saponin derivatives as vaccine adjuvant for cancer and other infectious diseases.

1997-2000 Research Associate, Drug Discovery Division, Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, AL. Research Area: Same as above plus development of different polysaccharide conjugates as vaccine adjuvants for cancer and infectious diseases.

1996-1997 Senior Research Associate, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. Research Area: Cost effective development for conversion of secondary metabolites from the plant Artemisia annua to artemisinin the starting material for synthetic derivative drug arteether.

1995-1996 Science and Technology Agency Fellow (STA), National Institute of Health Sciences, Tokyo. Research Area: Stereo specific synthesis of biological significant molecules like nitramine and carbocyclic sugars using asymmetric acetalization.

1993-1995 Research Associate Fellow, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. Research Area: Bioactive natural products from antimalarial plant Artemisia annua and process development for anti-malarial drug arteether (EMal).

1992-1993 Senior Research Fellow, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. Research Area: Bio-active natural products compounds from medicinal plants (Tinospora cordifolia) especially anti-malarials.
